Trillium Health Partners Conducting Review After Identifying Performance Issues with a Radiologist

Trillium Health Partners is in the process of reviewing 3,500 CT scans and mammograms conducted between April 1, 2012 and March 31, 2013 to ensure the accuracy of results.

This review is being undertaken due to a performance issue with one radiologist at Mississauga Hospital and Queensway Health Centre. All patients whose scans are being reviewed have been notified. The hospital also stated that this radiologist is no longer working at the hospital.

The hospital has engaged an external review team, led by Dr. Brian Yemen, MD, FRCP, Site Chief for Diagnostic Imaging, Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre and McMaster University Medical Centre at Hamilton Health Sciences.

The findings of Dr. Yemen’s review will be made public once the review is complete. The review will be expanded as necessary based on the independent recommendation of Dr. Yemen.

In addition to notifying the patients and physicians whose tests are a part of this review, the hospital has committed to following up with each of them directly as soon as their test has been reviewed. Patient and physician access lines have also been put in place to answer any questions or address any concerns patients, physicians or the community may have.
