Homewood Health Centre is a healthy place to work. The Ontario Hospital Association (OHA) has recently recognized the centre’s commitment to workplace health and wellness. Homewood was one of a number of health-care organizations in Ontario to be awarded the OHA 2004 Healthy Hospital Innovators Award presented at the OHA Annual Convention this past November in Toronto.
The award recognizes OHA member organizations for their commitment to implement a comprehensive and strategic approach to developing and sustaining a healthy workplace. The award also honours health-care organizations that demonstrate a willingness to share information about their program’s successes and failures.
“We are delighted to be awarded the OHA Healthy Hospital Innovators Award,” said Edgardo Pérez, MD, CEO and Chief of Staff, Homewood Health Centre. “One of our priorities is to create and maintain a quality work environment for our employees – one that provides opportunities for continuous learning and self-development. We are proud of the range of programs and services available – guided by our Healthy Workplace Policy – everything from our fully equipped recreation and fitness centre to our wellness education forums and our on-site day care. Creating and sustaining a healthy workplace has been a long-term goal and a driving force at Homewood. Achieving this award validates the success of these efforts.”
“The co-operation between the Ontario Nurses Association (ONA) and the management at Homewood Health Centre addressing the issue of healthy workplace practices, I believe, is the envy of hospitals across this province,” added Graham McAnulty, RN, a member of the Healthy Workplace Committee.
Award-winners receive an OHA 2004 Healthy Hospital Innovators Award Plaque and a Level One recognition for the National Quality Institute’s Healthy Workplace Progressive Excellence Program, which is linked to the Canada Awards for Excellence Program, one of Canada’s most prestigious awards recognizing the development and sustainability of a healthy workplace.
