The early pandemic days took a rapid toll on healthcare workers. Amid the battering and burnout, the public’s appreciation was the daily clapping of hands in cities worldwide that honoured their sacrifices in global uncertainty. But with each new variant, healthcare workers are reeling from the prolonged stress of dealing with the global crisis.

For many who find themselves still in the trenches, working long hours to provide patient care in overwhelmed facilities, a cup of coffee and tea can be a relaxing moment in their day.

McDonald’s Canada is offering all frontline healthcare workers a complimentary medium McCafé Premium Roast Coffee or Tea at participating restaurants across Canada. The company is using its more than 1,400 restaurants across Canada to thank and support the frontline healthcare and emergency personnel protecting and caring for our communities across the country. This offer is available at the front counter or Drive-Thru and runs until January 31.

Who is eligible?

McDonald’s Canada says those working tirelessly to serve our communities and help keep us safe with further rapid scaling of vaccinations. This includes frontline healthcare workers, vaccine volunteers, medical testing centres and pharmacy workers, and emergency services and military personnel. Workers can access this offer with their valid work ID.

“Thank you”

“Our purpose at McDonald’s is to feed and foster communities, and this effort is aimed at acknowledging those who are doing so much to care for our communities right now,” said Gemma Pryor, Senior Director, Canada Impact Team.

When the pandemic hit in 2020, McDonald’s Canada served more than one million free cups of coffee and tea to those working on the frontlines in partnership with its franchisees. With support from its employees, franchisees and suppliers, the company delivered food to hospitals and Ronald McDonald Houses when they need it most.

“Throughout the pandemic, we saw our franchisees finding creative ways to support their communities in times of need, and that’s what we’re seeing again today with the free coffee offer.”

Behind each cup of coffee and tea served, McDonald’s Canada franchisees are committed to showing their support to their local communities. This offer for the month of January is a simple gesture of appreciation for the resilient health workers who continue to keep our country going.

How do you let a frontline worker know that you value their support? Appreciation messages can go a long way but adhering to the Covid-19 rules and safety guidelines in place is even more powerful. We all have a responsibility.
