Melanoma Canada is proud to announce, the Mole Mobile, mobile skin cancer screening unit on wheels.
WHAT: The Mole Mobile, presented by Neutrogena®, a Kenvue brand, is a ground-breaking initiative that underscores the importance of skin cancer. The Mole Mobile will visit major Canadian cities with long wait times to see a dermatologist, underserved communities, rural and Indigenous regions to help speed up the time to diagnosis, which is vital to improving outcomes for patients.
Why does Canada need the Mole Mobile?
Melanoma and skin cancer are one of the few cancers with incidence rates on the rise in Canada and worldwide. Incidence rates for new melanoma cases have been rising on average by 1.4% each year over the last ten years. (CDC Statistics, 2016) 1 in 3 cancers diagnosed is skin cancer. Skin cancers are the most common type of cancer diagnosed in men over 49 years of age and are among the most common cancers diagnosed in youth and young adults. If detected, early melanoma and skin cancers are largely treatable.
This year’s tour will operate with the support and partnership of the Canadian Dermatology Association (CDA). It will bring certified Canadian dermatologists to communities across British Columbia, Alberta, Quebec, and Ontario to conduct potentially lifesaving skin cancer screenings and provide education on skin cancer prevention and the importance of early detection to improve outcomes.
Skin cancer is the most common cancer in Canada, yet access to dermatologists remains a challenge. With two Mole Mobile units hitting the road in 2025, we are expanding our reach and breaking down even more barriers to early detection.
During Melanoma Canada’s recent Mole Mobile launch in Ontario, in just twenty stops, 1575 individuals were screened for skin cancer. Among them, Dermatologists identified 165 possible skin cancers, including 67 melanomas (a potentially deadly type of skin cancer). Each of these individuals were advised on appropriate next steps to ensure timely follow-up care.
